WE are hype

By Us. For us.

With roots dating back to 1992, HYPE is North America’s largest peer support and education program for youth and young adults living with HIV.

HYPE (HIV-Positive Youth Peer Engagement) is a peer-led program by the AIDS Committee of Durham Region (ACDR) that supports HIV-positive youth ages 14–29* across Ontario. HYPE was created to address the unique challenges faced by young people transitioning from pediatric to adult HIV care systems.

Recognizing the potential for social isolation and the complexities of navigating adult healthcare, HYPE empowers youth through education, peer support, and community-building initiatives. The program offers a range of activities, including educational workshops, peer mentorship, and the annual HYPE Summit—a free multi-day retreat that combines health education with recreational activities. These initiatives aim to build resilience, foster connections, and reduce stigma among HIV-positive youth.

By centering the voices and experiences of young people, HYPE creates a supportive environment where participants can thrive and lead the next generation in the fight against HIV.
